North Nashville’s History about Sheep
Did you know the first lamb and wool association in Tennessee, and the first of its kind in the United States, was the Goodlettsville Lamb and Wool Club, according to the Tennessee Encyclopedia. It was initially formed in Goodlettsville, Davidson County, by a group of sheep farmers seeking to address unfair practices by lamb buyers. They initially called themselves the Goodlettsville Lamb Club, later changing the name to the Goodlettsville Lamb and Wool Club, and then the Goodlettsville Wool ClubThe North Nashville area was a prime lamb raising region of the state, I am sure because of the steep typography and lush valleys. Let’s bring our area back as the key production site for quality sheep products in Tennessee.
